GRADE SCHOOL IN 1922
TWO PICTURES BELOW:
The comments below are made by Barry Westfall
who attended MTHS from 1960 to 1963.
"The Villa Ridge Elementary School (Rife Memorial) shown above was apparently the only other feeder school in 1922 besides the Thistlewood Grade School to provide students as MTHS freshmen. My mother, Flo Stone Westfall is the small blond girl on the right front row in the light muslin dress with black stockings in the picture above (see red arrows). Standing beside her was her best friend, Rosemary Gunn, Jack Gunn's older sister, aunt of Jerry and Jackie. Looking over her shoulder (with her face partially obscured) is Gertrude Bonner Thompson, fifth grade teacher at Thistlewood for many years. Down the front row, second from the left, stands Joe Henry Wieting, father of Sue, Brenda, and Nettie.
The most recognizable senior of the 1922 MTHS class, by far, is Mary Scruggs, daughter of George Scruggs. She needs no introduction to most of us. The Freshman class would have graduated in 1925 and would now be turning 100 years old if any are still with us".
To see Mary Scruggs as a MTHS senior, please go to the 1922 senior class pictures by using the "PHOTO CENTER" navigation button in the upper left hand corner of this page and then selecting
