HARVEY AND RAY PRACTICING A DIFFERENT STYLE OF MUSIC BEFORE THE NBC TELEVISION CREW ARRIVED

It was hard to believe that 35 years had now passed since the Four Taus last played together at SIU.

Dirty Dan was still living in Brazil and Kirby was unable to make the trip from his California home to their 1999 reunion destinaton in Florida. Ray and Harvey decided to have a reunion anyway and keep the reunion recording tradition alive.

Since Kirby was unable to attend this reunion, the two original Taus decided to try and record some music that was completely different from their usual style of music.

The local NBC TV news channel somehow got wind of two old former college musicians celebrating a 35th year reunion and decided it might make a good human interest story. So the television station made arrangements to send a television crew and a reporter to see and hear the twoTaus during a recording session.

HARVEY AND RAY PICTURED ON THEIR CD TITLED
"EASY LISTENING OUR WAY"

The two Taus were indeed surprised when they listened to the raw studio recordings. They were great!!! No one thought Ray would be able to sing the new style of songs that were recorded and the same was true for Harvey trying to play them on the keyboard.

A few examples of the songs they chose to record were from Frank Sinatra ("The Lady Is A Tramp" and "My Way"); Nat King Cole ("Unforgettable"); Johnny Mathis ("Misty"); Ray Charles ("Georgia"); Peggy Lee ("Fever"); and many more for a total of twelve (12) different songs. They were so good that they were made into a CD that you see pictured above. When they were produced, Ray said he gave twenty eight of the CDs to relatives for Christmas presents. He didn't have to do much shopping did he?

And guess what? When the NBC television crew and the reporter heard Ray and Harvey during a recording session, they decided not only to film a short segment for their story but also to play a short segment of the recorded music during the broadcast of their story. In the above picture you see Ray looking at the 6:00 P.M. news broadcast. Ray commented, "They ain't gonna believe this down on the farm".
