THE FOUR TAUS ON THE BEACH

The FOUR TAUS band was very fortunate to be able to make many trips out of the SIU area. Some of these trips included trips to Chicago, St. Louis, Aspen, Colorado, and of course Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The picture above shows the band in preparation for a trip to Fort Lauderdale. The Marlboro Cigarette Company sponsored a contest at SIU for a free all expense trip to Fort Lauderdale during spring break. It was called the "Follow the FOUR TAUS to Fort Lauderdale Contest". This was when the Marlboro flip top box was first introduced. The contest started in the fall and it stated that Marlboro would pay all expenses to Fort Lauderdale to the individual that could collect the most flip top boxes by spring break. The FOUR TAUS did the advertising for the contest and also received an all expense paid trip to Fort Lauderdale. The above picture is one of the advertising pictures for the contest. A dormitory janitor won the contest.

And as you can see, we met some very, very, very nice people in Fort Lauderdale who loved to dance to the FOUR TAUS music!

In 1994, three of the Four Taus once again met on the shores of Florida and reminisced about their earlier days in Fort Lauderdale. The occasion was for their 30th year reunion. Dan Donnelly was living in Brazil at the time of the reunion and was understandably unable to attend. A great time was had by all!
