"Pepper" (Shumaker) Tally died peacefully in her home at Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on October 10, 2002. "Pepper" was born on June 3, 1924, in rural Villa Ridge. Illinois, to Dr. William and Mrs. Floy (Bour) Shumaker. She married B. Mark Tally of Mounds, Illinois, on January 5,1946, in Blythesville, Arkansas. Mrs. Tally was a homemaker during her entire married life. Her husband preceded her in death in January, 2002. Survivors include three sons, Benjamin Mark Tally, Jr. and wife Jo of Cape Girardeau, Michael and Carla Tally of Jonesboro, Illinois, and Don Tally of Cobden, Illinois. Her sister, Mary Emma George, and two brothers, Joe and Edward Shumaker, both of Villa Ridge, also survive her. Her seven grandchildren, Anne Marie Heisserer, Jon Tally, Mandi Tally, Michele Moore, Dan Tally, Shannon Tally, Meredith Tally, Kristen Tally, and two great-grandchildren, Abigail Heisserer, and Anthony Heisserer, Jr., remain. She was preceded in death by her parents and one niece.
Friends may call at the First United Methodist Church in Mounds, Illinois, after 4:00 PM, on Tuesday, October 15, 2002. Funeral services will be held at the church on Wednesday October 16, 2002. The Reverend Jerry Herring will officiate with burial in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, Illinois.
