Emma Winona Hogendobler Tally

Emma Winona Hogendobler Tally, 90, of Carbondale passed away at 7:20 AM, Friday, September 12, 2008, at Oak Grove Rehab & Care Center in Carbondale. She was born on Sunday, February 3, 1918, in Villa Ridge, Illinois, to Horace and Maud (Harding) Hogendobler. Emma married Roy Earl Tally of Mounds, February 20, 1939, and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jim and Carol Tally of Atlanta, Georgia, and William Tally of Carbondale, one daughter and son-in-law, Emma Jean and Mike Durr of Carbondale, and one son-in-law, John Phelps of Makanda. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Emma was also preceded in death by her parents and two daughters, Jerri Ruth Gerdes and Mary Jane Phelps.

Emma attended the Rife Memorial Grade School in Villa Ridge, and in 1936 she was graduated from Mounds Township High School. She and her husband, Earl, attended and enjoyed all of the Mounds High School reunions, loving to visit and talk with old classmates and other friends.

Visitation was held on Sunday, September 14, 2008, from 1:00 PM until 2:30 pm in the First United Mehtodist Church of Carbondale. Then at 2:30 PM funeral services were held with the Reverend John Annable officiating. Burial will be held at the Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale at a later date.
