Roy Earl Tally, 86, of Carbondale died at 1:45 PM, Saturday, July 2, 2005, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Earl was born September 15, 1918, in Mound City, Illinois, son of Mark and Emma McDaniel Tally. He married Emma Hogendobler on February 20, 1939.

Earl attended elementary school in Mound City and was graduated from Mounds Township High School in 1936. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8891 in Mounds. He was employed for many years at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and retired as its disbursements officer in 1981. He was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church in Carbondale.

Earl's survivors include his wife, Emma, and children Jim and wife Carol of Atlanta, Georgia, Emma Jean and husband Mike Durr and son William Joseph Tally all of Carbondale, ten grandchildren and thirteen greatgrandchildren, a son-in-law John Phelps of Carbondale, one brother Bill Tally of Altamont, four sisters, Lorena Danby of Murphysboro, LaWanda Full of Macon, Georgia, Helen Moyers of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Lenis, Greenwalt, of Germantown, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Jerri Ruth Gerdes and Jane Phelps, and four brothers.

A memorial service will be at 11:00AM Tuesday in the First Methodist Church in Carbondale, with the Reverend John Annable officiating. Memorials may be made to the Emma and Earl Tally Athletic Fund at SIUC, the Mehtodist Church Building Fund, the American Heart Association, or to Breast Cancer Research.
