Barbara Kay Goforth, 74, died at 5:55 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, in Jonesboro Rehab and
Kay was born Sept. 17, 1938, in Cairo, the daughter of Byron L. and Laura Maude (Brookins) Connell Sr.
She married Charles W. Goforth on May 26, 1957, in Mounds.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Goforth of Jonesboro; one son, Charles J. (Sherri) Goforth of Anna; one daughter, Angela K.
Go-forth of Pontoon Beach; six grandchildren, Blake, Brent and Brock Goforth and Taylor, Brady and Emily Battles; one brother, Jack B.
(Cathy) Connell of Cape Girardeau; one sister-in-law, Vicky (R.J.) McKinney of Cape Girardeau; nieces and nephews; cousins, including
Jeorge Ann Ambruster; aunt, Evelyn Lockard; other relatives; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Byron L. Connell II.
Barbara Kay worked as a substitute post master for 14 years. She was affectionately called Miss Kay by the many children she taught
at Sunday school and Mission Friends for 40 years.
She was a member of Mounds Methodist Church in her youth and later became a member of First Baptist Church in Thebes. She eventually
moved her membership to First Baptist Church in Jonesboro and then to Anna Heights Baptist Church.
Kay worked with mission groups and was a founding member of Thebes Historical Society. She was an active Girl Scouts leader and member
of Otahki Girl Scouts Council.
She was a member of Thebes Women's Club and Alexander County Home Extension and active in supporting senior citizen programs. She also
was involved in the Ladies Golf Association at Union County Country Club.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, in Anna Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Roath and the Rev. Mike Parry
officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Rendleman and Hileman
Funeral Home in Anna and 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
